As a player, he had a rather meek career as an attacking midfielder who spent most of his career with MVV Maastricht and represented Netherlands just once. Van Marwijk, Mark van Bommel’s father-in-law, progressed through the ranks of his coaching career, achieving his most impressive trophy to date, the UEFA Cup in 2002. Van Marwijk, then went on to claim the KNVB Cup in the 2007/8 soccer season.
